WELCOME TO THE MADRONA
SOCIAL STUDIES WEB PAGE
Social studies is the exploration of how people interact with their
social, cultural and physical worlds. Through lectures, activities,
and in-depth discussions, Madrona students will evaluate historical
and contemporary issues, gain an understanding of global
relationships, and make connections between past, present and
future. Through the perspectives of history, the interactions of
people and places in history, the lessons of law and civics, and the
economics of society, students will obtain the skills they need to
participate as responsible and effective citizens in an increasingly complex
world.
Students must participate in authentic activities to gain a deeper
understanding of the world around them. Mock trials, round table
discussions, debate, role playing, town meetings and presentations
will give students the opportunity to process the information
presented in class.
Changes to the curriculum may occur as national and international events develop. Opportunities for discussion are constantly presenting themselves. Check this site for changes as they occur.
